David Jenewein

David Jenewein (b. Innsbruck, 1983) developed a fascination with imagery at an early age. After his studies and extensive travels, he moved to Berlin in 2013, where he began working as a photographer’s assistant in fashion, and soon after to London, continuing in the field. His background led him to work as a DOP, collaborating with Harley Weir, Sam Rock, and Felicity Ingram, before establishing himself as a director. Jenewein’s films merge realism, documentary, and an experimental sensibility, drawing inspiration from auteurs such as Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Chris Marker, Hirokazu Koreeda, Claire Denis, and Wim Wenders. His aesthetic is defined by a minimal, unembellished camera language, a focus on simplicity that foregrounds emotion and authenticity. Editing is a key part of his process, with Jenewein often cutting his own films to shape tone and rhythm, exploring slowness and the beauty found in everyday moments. His work has been featured on Nowness, The Face Magazine, and Modern Matter, and he has collaborated with brands including Vivienne Westwood, JW Anderson, Miu Miu, and Loewe.
